Case: Travel to Russia
Travelling to Russia, either for personal reasons or business purposes, has peculiar requirements that you may be unfamiliar with.
Unlike travelling across Western Europe, travelling to Russia requires a visa in the first place. Obtaining a visa has also unique requirements. You will need an “invitation” from a tourist organization, a business company, or an individual, depending on the purpose of your visit, and to enclose that invitation together with your visa application at the Russian Consulate.
Besides, if you will be staying for more than three days in a particular town, even as a tourist, you will need to register at the so called OVIR, depending on the local police department. Please look at our registration page, as there may be changes with time.
Usually, the tourist organization or agency that you have hired will do all that for you. However, if you are travelling independently, you need to be aware of these requisites to avoid problems with your visa application or when leaving the country.
These peculiarities should not prevent you from visiting a very unique and special country. Russian citizens, by the way, have to comply with similar requirements when travelling to Western Europe or America.
